To help celebrate this a number of special features will be included in the Wodonga Event:

We hope you can help us celebrate these achievements.

CREATIVE CATCHMENT KIDS - VIEW AND VOTE

The Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre is delighted to announce that we are one of four finalists for a $50,000 grant from the Aussie Farmers Foundation.

We would love YOUR HELP to make our project, Aussie Farm Stories, a reality. If successful this project will allow us to expand our award-winning Creative Catchment Kids program to 50 more schools in rural and regional NSW including the  MIA . Students will connect with local farmers to produce a series of books based on sustainable agriculture, food security and food provenance.

Help Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre connect Aussie Kids to Aussie Farmers. Please vote!

To view our 90 second video pitch and vote for Wirraminna go to: http://www.aussiefarmersfoundation.org.au/grants/aussie-farmers-rural-hero-grant/

Please note, the Aussie Farmers Foundation website will only accept one vote per computer/device. We would really appreciate it if you could forward this email throughout your networks to increase support for our project.

Thank you so much for your support for Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre.

ANOTHER OPTION too is to  share the Facebook post pinned to the top of the Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/wirraminna/ ). The line I’m using to keep it short and sweet is Help connect Aussie Kids with Aussie Farmers. Vote 1 Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre! If you have an email list, perhaps you could forward the information in the email below through your  networks and request people keep forwarding so we can go viral.

LOCAL FILM SCREENING: MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED

Are you interested in approaches that prepare children for the changing face of employment?

'Most Likely to Succeed' documents the history of education in the US (much of which is equally applicable to Australia) and challenges the status quo by highlighting new approaches that use project-based learning.

It's an inspiring move aligned with ACRE's role of moving young people from job-seekers to job-creators.

Screenings in Bright, Myrtleford, Mt. Beauty, Wangaratta, Wodonga, Beechworth, Benalla, Shepparton & Mansfield.  See attached flyer:  Flyer Film Screening - Most Likely To Succeed.pdf

New SEED unit: Rubbish - YOU are the difference

This unit takes students through past practice in regards to rubbish disposal in order to develop an appreciation and understanding of present practices including organics collections and recycling of e-waste.  It also challenges students to think about what they will do in the future.  Linked to AusVELS, this unit is appropriate for years 5 through to 10.

Find it on the SEED website

Pilot Program to Monitor School Electricity Use

The Schools Water Efficiency Program (SWEP) now offers eligible schools with the opportunity to participate in a pilot program to monitor school electricity use. The electricity data is presented on the SWEP website in a similar manner to the existing water data and can be accessed through the same login. Complementing this information, a dedicated curriculum resource is being developed and is expected to be available in 2015. Contact SWEP consultant Andrew Hinchliffe andrew@amhconsulting.com.au to find out more.
