Wodonga Student Environment Day - 2019

Around 150 students attended the Wodonga Student Environment Day at the CUBE on August 1st to participate in hands-on workshops delivered by local natural resource management experts.  Joining the presenters were students from 3 local ResourceSmart schools (Wodonga Catholic College, St. Francis of Assisi and Wooragee Primary School) who shared their learning and taught their peers about environmental issues they were passionate about.  These ‘Kids Teaching Kids’ presenters did a great job and were very excited to have an opportunity to then be on television and in the newspaper.

Participating schools included St. Francis of Assisi, Rutherglen Primary School, Grace Christian College, Mt. Beauty Primary School and the Home Schooling Group.  They learnt about Filtering Water, Closing the Loop, Energy, Water Bugs, Natural Disasters, planting, making eco-bricks, fast fashion and fancy phones, the web of life, biodiversity in our national parks and at our schools.

The day practiced being waste wise through having a rubbish-free lunch and, water wise through bringing refillable water bottles and refilling them at the NE Water’s portable refill station.   The students also participated in a swap shop during lunchtime – giving toys, books and clothing they no longer wanted, another life and therefore keeping them out of landfill.
